We give thanks for Cornelius Swarthout

We here at Vans would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
This year we'd like to give thanks to an unsung American Hero, Cornelius Swarthout,
who on August 24th, 1869 got the first patent for a waffle iron in the United States.
Granted waffles date back to medieval times but it was ol' Corny who made
waffles common in America and ultimately inspired Paul Van Doren's delicious gum sole.
Tip of the hat to you, Swarthout.
